The Federal Government, led by The minister of Youth
and Employment, Chris Ngige, is optimistic that the 65
day old strike embarked upon by ASUU will be called off
on or before the weekend, to enable students resume
classes by next week.
This notion was as a result of the Agreement by FG to
release about N35bn out of the earned allowance, and
to accommodate payment of service shortfall in the
system. With this action, the Federal Government is
optimistic that a positive feedback will be received from
ASUU on Thursday, thereby enabling students resume
by weekend.
The President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, after
the meeting on 7th January, had stated that he would
take back the proposal by the FG, to the ASUU
members, and that is when the decision to either call
off the strike or to continue will be made.
Although FG expects ASUU to give a positive feedback
on Thursday, 10th January, no specific date was
announced by the ASUU President on when a meeting
with other ASUU members will be held.
